According to the Smorgon YB, he is the son of Shlomo Zalmen Mirkes not the brother:

"These two books are adorned with approbations from the Torah giants of Lithuania and famous rabbis from other places, including Rabbi Avraham Katzenelboigen, the head of the rabbinical court of Brisk of Lita [Brest Litovsk] and Rabbi Yisrael Mirkin, the head of the rabbinical court of Minsk (grandson of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim HaCohen, the rabbi of the district of Smorgon)." Smorgon YB p81

Shalom. Do you know if Shlomo Zalman Mirkis was an ancestor of Rabbi Khaim Mirkin, who lived in Krupki, Belarus and Chernigov, Ukraine in the first half of the 19th century? Thank you.

Shalom. I do not have the information you are seeking.

The only suggestion I can make would be the Meisels chapter (Volume 3) of The Jacobi Papers, which does cover the Mirkes-Meisels branch around p. 470.

One more comment on the main subject of this thread: it could be that the Rabbi Ysrael Mirkin mentioned in the Smorgon YB is a second Yisrael Mirkin (i.e. there are two). This would mean that Shlomo Zalmen Mirkis has both a brother and a son named Yisrael Mirkis.
