Hi Hayley. Unfortunately I cannot help except to give you advice. I think you mean Bangor, North Wales. Has your Dad done his DNA test? I did the My Heritage (Geni is owned by them) as I have a lot of American relatives but I think that the Ancestry DNA test (which is British) would be better as there is the Welsh link here. Good luck with your search. If you need help with anything let me know as I don't live too far from Moelfre. Do you have an address for Gwladys? Have you done an Ancestry search on her?
Kind regards
Ann Dunn
St. Aidens Boys Home closed in 1948 then reopened as a baby nursery.

I also found a Gwladys (Gladys?) Maud Owen who was a midwife in Bangor, Wales in the 1950/51 “Role of Practicing Midwives”, page 358.

@Scottishancesters. We had a similar situation; no known birth father for my mother so she did an Ancestry DNA test, it took 12 months for a match to pop up and now a year later we have been able to not only identify who her father is but meet living close relatives! Absolutely amazing and definitely worth you or your father doing the same. Good luck.

I have more info.
I have no records from that area. I'm actually researching a similar scenario for a friend. As others have said it's probably worth having an ancestry DNA test completed. However do be aware that unless you are very, very lucky with a close match you will still need to complete much research.

My grandmother was Gladys Cowen before she married my granddad they were both from Northallerton Yorkshire I haven’t got any knowledge of my dad having any siblings that was adopted but if I come across any information I will let you know.
I suggest you do a DNA on ancestry then you can upload your DNA on most web sites which my husband and I have done.
Hi Hayley, like others have said I suggest DNA testing. My husband was adopted in the UK. He obtained his mother's details and court papers in the mid 90's. Has your father done this?
We tested with Ancestry DNA then uploaded it to other sites. A match came back at 91cm on one of these other sites. It took over 2 years, but finally a first cousin popped up on ancestry. He had no tree but his name wasn't common and I managed to link him with the 91cm match.
Then some of the lower matches began to fit this tree, like a jigsaw puzzle finally forming a picture. It's taken me almost another year to reach this stage but I'm confident i've found his father - I need relatives to test to confirm it.
Some people are lucky and a close relative is there when the results come back from the lab. But for many of us DNA is slow and painstaking work. But worth it!
In our case the birth father used a different name from the one he was born with - this alias was the name we had. We would never have found him without DNA.
Hi Hayley
Moelfre is a really tiny town - I live in a small town not too far from Moelfre (but not near enough to have any knowledge). Have you tried social media? There are a couple of Facebook pages for Moelfre and in my experience, local people have a lot of knowledge about their community and I wouldn't be surprised if someone could help. Owen is a very common surname in this area, but Gwladys less so. As someone else pointed out, Bangor is the nearest hospital.
Hello Hayley, I am so sorry but I can't help you although my daughter does live on Anglesey and she used to work at Banger Hospital. She herself comes from Somerset so she wouldn't be able to help either
I really hope that you have great success and as others have suggested go for the DNA. Much love. Thelma Grimes (ne Harris )
