The birth certificate for a Mordechai-Benzion WOLPERT in the Kaunas Archive clearly identifies this son of Gershon and Mina WOLPERT, born on 5 December 1865. There is a death certificate for Marcus WOLPERT, wife Henrietta COHN, in which his son Erich claims that Marcus’s father was Ruben WOLPERT (Gershon’s brother) and that Marcus’ age at death was 61, placing his date of birth at 1854 instead of 1865. This is plausible, and would make Marcus Rubin’s oldest child, preceding Velvel by two years. It however, raises the issue of his mother’s age, which would be 12 years if the present estimate is correct. If true, then it raises the possibility that there are two Mordechai-BenZion’s, first cousins, named for the same ancestor. There are no known WOLPERT, ROSENZWEIG, or SHULMAN ancestors named BenZion.
