Mungo Mackay of Boston was a well known public figure in Boston during the war between France and the United States. During the war with Great Britain he financed and bonded many privateer vessels so his fortune was secure but he also lost money during the Quasi-War with France. I added his profile to this Project to further illustrate the harm the Quasi-War did to the United States mercantile class, especially Boston. Note that his claims were eventually settled and some money was repaid to his heirs in 1900, over a hundred years later.
