Family legend has it that the family of Ernest and Katharina (Katte or Kate) Lazarsfeld "bought" the name Warner in England in 1866. The birth of their youngest son Emanuel was registered in Rotherhithe, but Katte was in Lancashire,England alone as a widow with four children and her own means of support. The three sons - Richard, Hugo and Emanuel, became the Warner Brothers International Theatrical Agency which was closed down by the London County Council in 1914 because they were deemed enemy aliens.
