Hello, How to I report a a problem? Years ago I set up a Geni family tree, but someone else got into it, put up wrong information and I couldn't correct it. So I started a new one -- exactly the same problem only worse. So I tried joining another site "my heritage", but again, without my permission they put up the wrong information (which seems to be doing the rounds) making it impossible for me to clean it up, or get my correct ancestors in. I'm willing to have one more try with Geni, but want the assurance that NOBODY can get into my family tree (no "smart matches that are wrong", etc. )

For anyone here researching the details of the 1820 families of John Joseph Smith and John and Ann Edwards, whoever says Sarah Mary Smith is the daughter of the Moorcrofts, they are her half-siblings, not her parents -- her parents were Alfred Desiree Smith and a Miss Potgieter (I think Anna Katarina Potgieter), first cousin of Andries Potgieter. Can anyone help me get this corrected please? I put in the right information, but someone else's mistakes have overridden my correct information and I can't find out how to fix it (and get back to all her ancestors which I Had put in -- she was my great grandmother).

Also, if I start yet another one, can I somehow set it so that NOBODY can get onto my family tree and mess it up? I am happy for people to look there for information if they wish, but NOT to join my family tree with theirs or make any changes to mine. Thanks for any info you can give.

geni is a merging website. its not possible. you will need to use a different website.

Thanks @Jason Scott Wills, can you recommend a good website that doesn't allow other people into our family trees to mess them up? Or is there some way that I can trace who is putting up wrong information and get them to fix it?

Another question please @ Jason Scott Wills -- I'm on the free version -- if I upgrade to a paid version, can people still get in and mess it up? This wrong information is now not only on Geni but also on My Heritage, so I think the only hope is to get to all the people who have the wrong info and get them to correct it, as it seems to be doing the rounds.

See my response in this discussion you started. https://www.geni.com/discussions/212343

Geni wants accuracy, and Curators can help correct and untangle errors.

A paid version is no different from the free when it comes to folks merging and/or editing profiles one added and/or manages.

I have the same issue.
I received a Smart Match that included my great uncle Atilio Febres Cordero Jelambi.
The information about him is wrong, I do not know how to correct it. The person listed as his wife was never his wife, he was never married to her. His wife was Carmen Añez Cols, they had 7 offsprings. I would like to correct the information about him, do not know how.

Smart Match are to Profiles on other Sites. Not to Profiles on Geni.

Make sure the Profiles on Geni are correct and well-documented.
That includes: Make sure you have uploaded and/or referenced the records to the correct info on Geni.

Then - be happy you are working on Geni where the info is correct, and not on that other site where it is wrong.
And promise yourself you will never just copy info from somebody else's Tree without confirming with records, since you have seen other Trees can be wrong.
