I have some information about Yrjo if you are interested. I will try to keep the information in chronological order

I see you noted he got a passport in 1914. He traveled around on sailing ships for awhile before coming to the United States (New York) 1/1/1920.

He changed his name to George and became a citizen while living in Alaska, United States.

March 30, 1933, he and Pola Jurkin (also from Finland) had a baby (my grandmother) named Helen Sonia Karttunen in Alaska where he was working as a gold miner.

March 9, 1939, he and Pola Jurkin were married in Tacoma, Washington, United States. They later divorced in 1947.

Later, in 1951, he changed his surname from Karttunen to Kare.

He moved back to Savonlinna, Finland at some point after their divorce although I am unsure of the date.

He died in Savonlinna May 10, 1975.

He is buried as "George Emil Kare" in the Talvisalo Cemetery with his half sister, Elma Karttunen (January 13, 1910 - March 7, 1986)

Hi Tory,

Very interesting story, thank you! And I think that nobody else could know all name changes and other data here in Finland. So, Yrjö Emil Karttunen was your great grandfather. Could you update the profile of Yrjö Emil? Of course I can update your message as such and your name. But it would be better that you will manage profile because you are nearest relative.

Best regards
Raila Lyytikäinen

Sure! I started updating his profile.
