Hermann Pottgeiter birth of son 1660 in Altstadt Essen

Just wondering why the German flag adopted in 1919 as the modern flag of Germany is being used as an image for someone born in c 1590. Would not the flag or coat of arms of old Saxony be more correct?

Charlette Louise Hoppe ----
I agree 100 %
Prussia, Germany , Alsace ? or was it France that year I often wonder?
Netherlands or Holland ? Poland or Royal Prussia -- Gdingen or Gdyna ?
Then we have Cologne or Köln? Londre or London
A problem keeping up sometimes .
Maybe where that place is in 2020 and the name it bears today not that incorrect

Good points.

However --
What to do with alternative data after merging profiles?
Does one change to more correct details and present source of those details ?
Hermann, Hermannes ,Hermanus or Herman ? What name did he use or was Baptised as ?
Do we change it all to Modern English versions or not ?
That would mean change flag to Saxony 1590 wappen / blazon / coat of arms and say why you feel that is more correct with a source substantiating that change .

We try to use the name most commonly or earliest used on the documentation in primary sources.

Happy to change it to whatever we all agree that is.

! As you say Sharon : what we all agree to.
Make this a constructive group effort with an improved final outcome ! Sticking to some basic rules.
