Hello,

I am starting this discussion because the parents currently listed for John Peckham of Newport, RI are incorrect. Family researchers have hypothesized that he may be the same as Rev. John Peckham, son of Henry Peckham and Elizabeth Peckham christened on April 8, 1595. The issue with this is that Rev. John Peckham of England stayed in England where he was a practicing clergyman at the time that the other John Peckham was living in Rhode Island. See this discussion for more information and sources: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/57874/the-origin-of-john-peckham-and-h...

Therefore I have removed the parents currently listed for John Peckham and locked his relationships to prevent the erroneous connection from being re-added.

Sincerely,
Tamas Caldwell-Gilbert

Another conjectural connection in this tree is John Peckham of Rhode Island's supposed daughter, Elinor Boomer.

From https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-266219:

"Stephen Farnum Peckham, in his 1922 Peckham Genealogy (p. 213), described the supposition that John Peckham had a daughter Eleanor who married Matthew Boomer as "conjectures" and "mere straws." There is no evidence, beyond this old supposition in the Boomer family (based on the fact that John Peckham and Nicholas Cottrell were surety for a bond involving Eleanor Boomer), that Eleanor's maiden name was Peckham; and there is no evidence that John Peckham had a daughter Eleanor (although John's second wife was named Eleanor, but any daughter of this couple would have been much too young to have been the wife of Matthew Boomer).
....
Mrs. Staunton fails to note that Nicholas Cottrell also posted bond for Eleanor Boomer in 1671, so by her reasoning, Cottrell is equally likely to have been Eleanor's father."

I don't think that John Peckham acting as surety for a bond is any indication that he is her father, not to mention that he was not the only one to do so. I disconnected Eleanor from John Peckham and I removed the maiden name Peckham leaving comments in the about section recording the Peckham theory.

Tamas,

Thanks for your work! This is one of those profiles that becomes a merge mash over time.

I think we need to dig them all up and get some DNA samples. You never can be sure who the father is anyway.
