WHAT is the likelihood of a couple *born and bred on the Eastern Shore of Virginia* visiting England *just* long enough to have *one* daughter and then returning to the Eastern Shore?
What is the likelihood (SLIM TO NONE) of ANY child born int he late 17th century having a MIDDLE NAME?
Does anyone realize that Spotsylvania County is on the WESTERN shore of the Chesapeake Bay, and that "you can't get there from here" - or not easily, anyway)?
Has somebody mash-merged two DIFFERENT profiles together? (Happens all the time here now!)
I got through to the Miles Files - had to do it from the local library, because there is Something Very Wrong with my home Internet connection - and I'm sorry to have to report that they have *NO* available information on either of the daughters of John and Mary Floyd. Sarah and Esther were both reported to be "under 16" at the time of their father's will (1687), and thereafter...silence.
Esther was at one time thought to have married Edmund Bibby II, but that turned out to be a different, considerably older Esther, who may or may not have been a Floyd.
Sarah...nothing. (The one certainty is that she was *not* born in England.)
We spoiled moderns have a hard time understanding just how horrific infant and child mortality used to be. We say "No parent should have to bury their child" - but as little as 100 or so years ago, no parents could be certain of raising *all* their children. Go back 150-200 years, and they might, on average, expect to raise one out of every two - more if they were particularly lucky, but if they were especially *unlucky*, they might lose them *all*.
Tagging John Floyd, of Northampton County - not her father
And Ruth Duncan - not her daughter (as of last pass through this family).
The issue here is dates / locations / too many names.
RUTH
was the daughter of Matthew & Sarah(Floyd)Rawley. Ruth married William Duncan, 11 Feb 1721 in Orange County, Virginia.
But her father “came from Wales” in 1720. Therefore she was born in Wales. Therefore so was her mother - whose name is not mentioned?.
And death date for Matthew Rawley is improbable.
Still, I’ll put it together, now that the impossible is out.
There definitely was a daughter Sarah, per John Floyd's will of 1687: "To my dau. Sarah one feather bed" (Esther got the same). Both girls were stated to be under 16 at the time (none of the children were older than about 10). The four boys are all known to have married and had children - but nothing is heard of the girls after 1687. (Esther *may* possibly have married one Richard Rogers in 1713 - that was the original thought, before getting her mixed up with whichever Esther whoever married Edmund Bibby II.)
Mary Floyd Overview still includes a Bad Link to "Sarah Ann (Floyd) Raleigh". This needs to be removed and the Sarah who was last heard of being bequeathed a feather bed in 1687 needs to be added.
