This Sgt. William Grant Sr. has two mothers listed. Which is correct?

The ancestry of William Grant has not been satisfactorily identified. It has been claimed that he was that son of David Grant of Lympots whose baptism was registered on 27 February 1725, but this has the appearance of being nothing more than just a guess. Certainly, I have not seen any evidence which connects this child with William Grant in Colonial Maryland.

In any case, he can't have two mothers. When there is no validation for the connected parents, I always believe it's best to disconnect them rather than have unproven connection that give false pathways on Geni.

I agree with you Debbie. Does anyone disagree?

Alexander is a proven son of William Grant and Mary of Rutherford Co, NC and was named in his Will

My fourth grandmother Margaret GRANT (c1788) m James Morgan in 1802

The link has good info for anyone researching William and his descendants. It indicates it's not certain where he came from and lists no parents.

I see that the father and one of the two mothers who had been connected to him have been disconnected, but he's still connected to an undocumented mother. So it seems someone did some work on fixing the issues but stopped short of validating the still connected mother or disconnecting her.

Just months after this discussion began someone has come along and is
claiming he is the son of David Grant. Unsurprisingly no other information is included about David (wife, bdm dates, etc).

It seems most believe the Findagrave profile which is then copied to FamilySearch and then attempted to be copied here.

And both Find-a-Grave and FamilySearch are only as accurate as the info input, same as any tree. We see errors on both sides quite often.

I've notice the game playing with FamilySearch, Geni and WikiTree. I believe the term they use is circular sourcing. Sometimes a poorly sourced MyHeritage or Ancestry Tree is thrown in. Too give it some weight. Generally these trees than become inaccessible.

I get it. People want to connect to someone / family of importance or significance.

Anyhow, I see no prove has be given to show the parentage of William.

Locked relationships to “no parents.”
