I merged a generation below. Please check the two mothers! They are similar but not exactly the same so I do not want to merge THEM.
Does anyone has sources? Know which is correct as best can be?
Thank you
There were several bad merges overnight in Bass and the Y DNA is messed up. I am going through one by one and alerting curator and managers and fixing what I can.
Elizabeth Bass Smith
vs
Elizabeth Bass (Wright)
neither one has info so it is probably OK to merge them...
The mother of Frederick sr is Elizabeth born 1721 Nansemond , Virginia died in Virginia. I am looking at Smith for her last name, but not ready to add that yet.
The mother of Frederick jr is Olive Stewart born North Carolina, died in North Carolina. I am still trying to prove her birth and death dates.
Thank you , Bob! I went ahead and merged them. The response on my post to the group is that an Elizabeth Smith married William Bass. For now I will leave her Unknown if that is ok? But also, I know the Y DNA for this Bass line is correct.
Please do let me know if you see any errors in your tree that I can help with and hopefully we will get her name settled soon. So sad that many times we can’t find a name for our ancestral grandmothers.
Happy thanksgiving!
Please see the BASS Surname DNA group where I posed the question.
The FamilySearch profile showing Frederick's parents is incorrect.
I do know the Bass DNA for Frederick is correct, after unmerging same named folks of different DNA... hopefully we can get more of them locked but they MUST be locked with the correct parents and require a request to merge or others will get locked in the wrong family...
The Bass group is saying that an Elizabeth Smith married THOMAS Bass and not William. I promise you I will only work on a Bass profile if and when I have correct information to work on and not just out of the blue. She is your grandmother. I will treat her with care.
Cynthia, I feel pretty certain now that Elizabeth, wife of William Bass is Elizabeth Smith daughter of Capt. Augustine Warner Smith and Sarah Carver. We have a profile for Augustine and family on Geni. However, there are some discrepancies of dates for the family.
Elizabeth is my sixth great grandmother.
Bob Barris I will look and I will make the correction if I am able. We will need to consult a curator ass well perhaps. I am no longer in the Bass DNA surname group and since the great Bass historian Tanna Jo passed away, I don't work on Bass very often.
I DO still believe I will find a direct ancestor Bass and presently only see them as aunt/uncle by marriage and sister/brother-in-law and close cousin relationships on both sides (maternal and paternal) and I was most sincere when I promised you I would ONLY work on them if I have correct information. That is very difficult for me now.
I am a member in several other Bass or Bass related groups but with Tanna Jo went my confidence.
Bob, I see Elizabeth, wife of William Bass is attached as daughter of
Capt. Augustine Warner "Gus" Smith and
Sarah Smith
That is awesome!
What if anything do you need me to do?
Are you just updating the Discussion?
I appreciate that very much.
I see Elizabeth Bass is the only one here NOT MP'd. Are you able to add to her profile so we can request she be curated and that can help keep her from being mismerged or confused in the future-- the more sources and information on her profile the better in the long run and since she is within the range of autosomal DNA, you may be able to prove her with your matches.
The two children listed are not MP'd either: Frederick Bass, Sr (I started this Discussion on his profile) and Thomas Bass
I was just updating the discussion about Elizabeth. I don't think there is anything you need to do with it. I will add Elizabeth and Frederick sr. Thomas is difficult, but I will see if I have anything about him. I will work on adding this line from Frederick Sr down to my grandfather.
Our Bass research took a big hit when we lost Tanna. I worked with her for years on the Bass family. She was excellent, she was also a very kind and considerate person and a very close friend.
