There has been a mixup of several families.
This discussion is to note actions taken.
Joseph Williams of Duplin Co, NC who married Phoebe Williams is not the same as Joseph Williams, of Elbert County who married Henrietta Williams
The man who died in Georgia has 2 children noted by the DAR: Rev. John Williams & Matthew Jouett Williams
The man who died in Duplin County is probably not the son of John Williams, of Hanover County and Mary Williams so has been disconnected from parents. If there is evidence, please supply. His children also do not aligned with the only site I see so far - https://mykindred.com/cloud/TX/getperson.php?personID=I106377&t... - which has unproven parents.
Neither of them are the same as Capt. Joseph Williams, Sr. who married Mary Williams with 8 children.
If I can’t find their “extra children” I will disconnect and post in this discussion.
Oh my, this is getting so confusing. Another relative in California, has been tirelessly working on finding the accurate father of our Nathan Williams (from the Thomas Jefferson Williams, etc) and she hasn't been too successful (our Nathan lived in the Franklin, TN area I believe, not the NC area). And Polly Phillips Church put together a book of the Williams family members she was able to research while her brother worked in DC as an FBI agent and her work doesn't exactly line up, though again, bits and pieces are there. And then lastly, once upon a time, someone else sent me some of the names I'm reading about here and nothing lined up with what I had, just bits and pieces of my Williams and his Williams and it was so confusing, like this. I replied to the person and asked if I could please corroborate with him on trying to sort our obviously two sets of Williams and I never heard from him again.
I do have a DNA sample from my dad's cousin, Bill Williams. I'd be interested in finding out what these other Williams DNA looks like. Truly, the Williams is every bit as difficult to sort out as the Campbells.
When I looked to see how I might relate to this Capt. Joseph Williams, SR, it shows me matching on my mother's side. Oy! Now I'm curiously wondering if my great grandmother's sister, Esther Campbell Williams, if her husband is where these other Williams matches are coming from AND, if by some other crazy chance, his Williams could also be related to my dad's mother's Williams.
Esther's husband, Gabe Williams, never knew his background or whether his surname was his own or simply given to him. He was a child who was brought to Arkansas on the Orphan Train from out East. I've not been successful in acquiring more information on him. Wouldn't be interesting if my theory is correct.

Hi, Judy. I've been trying to reach you through an email address associated with Bill's account. Bill is a close match to me and my brother, especially with Y-DNA on FTDNA. I'm trying to determine my 2x great-grandparents, and DNA matches point to my 2x great-grandfather being one of the sons of Thomas Jefferson Williams of Conway County. I'd love to collaborate with you.
