Hello Ella,
Not sure what exactly you want to know or if this will help.
His second great grandfather was Isaac Newton of Ruswarp. He was not "the" Isaac Newton, but tourist literature sometimes incorrectly assumes This This Isaac supposedly had interests in the Peak Alum Works, and this may well be true, but I cannot find evidence, His grandsons later owned alum works at Kettleness. See E Thesis Kevin Quinn, Durham University. Google this.
Isaac was also a magistrate who in 1649 sat on the bench when a witch from Ryedale was brought to trial. Isaac purchased Bagdale Hall, Whitby from his brother in law Browne Bushell in 1631 for 1800 pounds - a large some back then. Browne Bushell's name suggests his connection to the Brown(e) side of the family, but I have yet to find this, Browne Was executed for Piracy in the Civil war but apparently was more to do with swapping sides and is a long story. His Cholmeley cousin did the same thing but escaped execution. These Cholmeleys owned a large part ( or were rather gifted a large part of WhitbyAbbey after the dissolution of the monasteries.
Not sure if this helps. I have nothing on George Newton Brownes earlier life except that he was baptised at St Mary's, Whitby and I believe that his father went back to St Vincent.I believe he died in Derbyshire.
I hope this is what you are after. Sorry if it is not.
Regards,
Lorraine Banks.
