Hello, after much research, I discovered I am a descendant of Jacques de la Porte. Now I am writing a novel about my grandmother's life and start with the arrival of the Kattendijk in the Cape. The only problem is I know nothing about sailing. Does anyone have information about how the ship handled in the ocean. What were the cabins like for paying passengers? Did the ship carry livestock? If so, what? What would the sailing weather have been like during this journey? Are there any more records I can access and if so, please direct me.
