DNA Markers: R1b1a2a1a1b R-FT82234 are both on the profile. FtDNA shows (which I think is him):
593928 George (The Elder) Foster b. 1695 and d.1789 VA Unknown Origin R-Y94955

They are both correct Haplogroups, but differ in naming and accuracy.
R1b1a2a1a1b is an old (alternate) name equal to R-P312. It dates to the Bronze age about 4000 years ago. It is a more refined Y-DNA test than R-M269 which dates to about 10,000 years ago. It was once the best Y-DNA test available, but is now considered a low tier test. Millions of people share these haplogroups so they are not very useful when looking at surnames today.
The Foster DNA project dates back to around 2005 when these tests first became available. The majority of the members did not upgrade over the years as better more refined Y-DNA tests became available.
The current most up to date Y-DNA test is the Big Y-700 test. It can refine the haplogroup to within hundreds of years so it can often be genealogical relevant.
George (The Elder) Foster is within Group 7 of the Foster DNA project.
593928 is Kenneth Howard Foster (my uncle)
31604 is Robert Thomas Foster (me)
Haplogroup R-Y94955 is roughly refined to 1700-1800 so the George Foster Sr's exact Haplogroup is probably between Haplogroup R-FT82234 (500 years ago) and R-Y94955 (200 years ago), in an as of yet unnamed haplogroup.
Also note that as changes are made to the Y-DNA Haplotree, name changes will continue to be made, so we may be moved from R-Y94955 to a newly named haplogroup anytime in the future.

Thank you, Robert T Foster. I am a descendant but not a male Foster but I have inherited/adopted a male Foster profile with the Y connected and was not sure how to proceed since the privacy on profiles will keep everyone from being able to see WHO actually added the DNA. I was able to see your line of descendancy from George and I have worked on the line but still had that nagging feeling when I logged out.

George is ancestral uncle for me. Are you familiar with which wife is the mother of his children? I am unable to sort them further.

George's profile and tree is somewhat mythological. Outside of a few facts from court records, it is based on circumstantial evidence and guesses. There were multiple George Fosters in Virginia at that time in multiple counties and some of them moved from county to county. From court records we can differentiate some of them, but our George gets the most hacks and guesses accepted as "fact."
I have Betty as his wife because his grandson Francis said so in court records. Others have Mary Singleton because she married a George Foster. Which George Foster? No connection to any George Foster has been sourced, but guesses are made since the middle name Singleton enters the family at various points, sometimes generations later, and sometimes added by 20th century hacks. I view the middle name as a possibility, not a fact, since other Singleton connections are possible. Our George may have had two or more wives is also a possibility.
George seems to be a good guy, but that trait was not passed to all of his children or grandchildren. It is a very disappointing family to research.
Robert T Foster, chin up. Every tree has its share of nuts and rotten fruit... just so long as the rots are good, we may graft in elsewhere or make our own little forest. My philosophy.
