There was an article published in the Red Lodge Picket newspaper in Red Lodge Montana on August 8, 1901. Alexander who was referred to as Alex Mattson was taking part in a charivari (a mock serenade to newlyweds, made with pans, kettles...) which was very noisy. He had come from Coronado, Washington with his brother Kalle to attend this. Eventually the police were called to break this up and in the process Alexander was shot 4 times in the abdomen, and eventually he died of his injuries. An inquest was held but the police officer in question was found to be acting in the lawful discharge of his duties. Alexander did not have a weapon when he was shot.
