We can be sure that James Douglas, 5th Baron of Drumlanrig and Janet Scott had children but if there was a James, it seems highly unlikely that he was designated 6th Lord of Drumlanrig.

Please would you justify that?

My research shows that William Douglas, 6th Baron of Drumlanrig and Elizabeth Gordon had James, 7th Baron of Drumlanrig.

Thx

Stuart Eastwood, I think you may be onto something. Sir Robert Douglas' The peerage of Scotland mentions only two children William (the future 6th lord who is explicitly designated as the "only son") and Agnes. https://quod.lib.umich.edu/e/ecco/004896980.0001.000/1:207?rgn=div1...

I dealt with James, but this now leaves the question of what to do with Angus Douglas Helen Douglas and Gavin Douglas who are also listed as children of Janet and James.

Stuart, do you have any sources you could contribute here so that we can decide what to do with these children?

<private> Leitch do you remember the sources you used to find these children?

Agnes may have been James Douglas' third daughter. Burke's correctly calls her "Agnes" under Grierson, but errs in calling her "Janet" under Queensberry, Marquess [the Drumlanrigs] and again under Greer in his "Irish Pedigrees." One and the same lady I think.

But perhaps as important to correct the issue of 'James, 6th Lord of Drumlanrig'??
