For a while already i have not been checking the site because the development has broken many features that once were, which makes site all but useless.
I would like to come back and become active here again, but i am a bit concerned the my time is wasted. As such i'd like to know if there are at least plans to restore some broken functions which i find necessary:

1. Ability to see the profile after searching for it by name, when that profile is public. (Currently i am swamped with messages of people finding a profile, being unable to open it and then starting to write me messages. There was a reason why i have always put the information in the profile, and it is not visible.)
2. Ability to disable blue/pink sex-based colour pallet in the tree. (Ok, this is just an issue of graphics, but it is so annoying and so trivial to fix, that i am shocked that i still cannot find an option.)
3. Ability to merge the profile in another tree. Currently, it seems to e only possible after payment. (That was the essential part of the site, building one large family tree. If every free user will start creating their trees, this will become a mess.)

2. Color pallet

https://help.geni.com/hc/en-us/articles/229703407-How-To-Customize-... How To: Customize Your Tree Display … Choosing the Custom color scheme allows you to select from a wide range of color palettes for male nodes, female nodes, unknown-gender nodes, and the background.

1. Ability to see the profile

This sounds like users not knowing how to get from tree view to profile view? Doesn’t make sense, otherwise.

3. Merge

https://help.geni.com/hc/en-us/articles/229705447-What-is-a-Merge-R...

Basic members can merge profiles and do all the time. The issue is they hit a paywall on blue tree matches after the first few freebies. This has no plan to change I know of.

3. Merge -- This spells out many ways one can merge profiles. All but Tree Matches work just as well for Basic (free / unpaid) members as for PROs (paid members)
https://help.geni.com/hc/en-us/articles/229705547-How-do-I-merge-du...

1. If a Basic Member uses Geni's Search Box, they will usually get an Ad For Pro if they click on a Profile outside their Max Family, including those that are Public.
If instead, they locate the Public Profile on Geni thru Google or another search engine, they will be able to access it just fine. (They will also be able to access it just fine if you send them the URL)

Erica Howton, Thank you for the colour pallet link, it is really useful. Thanks to you and to Private User for clearing it up about the merge working for unpaid subscription, that is good.

But i am a little unclear about the ability to see a profile. You say that you can get there from a tree view, but i cannot find a way to get into the tree view. When i search i do get a link to open profile (but not tree), but then it says that i need a paid subscription, even if the profile is public. Is there a trick to open the tree?

Ignore what Erica said about #1. She forgot or was not aware of when Basic Members get the Ad for Pro after doing a Geni Search.

Instead, while logged in to Geni, do your search for the Public Profile using Google or another search engine.(not the search on Geni)
To increase chances the Geni profile will be one of the first found, include site:geni.com on the search bar. Then click on it when found.
It works just fine for Public Profiles when a Basic Member.

Private User,

I'm sorry to tell you that #3 is a mistake, i have gotten many merge requests, and i cannot even see them without paying for a pro membership.

Volodya Mozhenkov -
The SUGGESTED MATCHES, also called Tree Matches and indicated by the Blue Box, cannot be accessed by Basic Members. Those are not requests - just suggestions generated by a computer program. Sometimes they are good finds, sometimes they are not -- they should never be regarded as requests.
Not being able to access them does not keep basic members from doing merges, just from seeing what the computer algorithm found.

A MERGE REQUEST - as in one person has approved it, it is waiting on someone on the other side to approve it - you should be able to see. They are indicated in Tree View by a small plus-sign in the lower left corner of the box, on the profile by the words "Review Requested Merge" under "View Tree" and in the Merge Center come under "Requested Merges" in the upper list between "Matches" and " Tree Conflicts".
These Basic Members should be able to see.
Can you see these?

Thanks Private User and Erica Howton for assisting. I have nothing to add to what you've already said, but I'm here in case there seems to be a bug or you need further technical explanation. :-)
