Benjamin Colvard's son, Benjamin Colvard, Jr and Betty Brown (daughter of Elizabeth Hemings) also had several children born at Monticello: Burwell, Brown, Melinda, Robert, and Mary Colbert. All were born slaves to Thomas Jefferson. In Jefferson's last will and testament, he freed Burwell Colbert, gave him $300 in cash, plus a cabin on an acre of land.
