My grandfather came from Moletai in his teenage years. His name here was Benjamin Schocat. He came with his mother Rochel Schochet whose husband died or disappeared in Lithuania around 1910-1915 I presume. The husband was the Schochet/schokhat. Rochel was a Segal.

Hoping folks might have info on Schocat/Schochet/Schokhat from Moletai. I think the deceased husband of Rochel was Moshe or Moses or something with an "M".

Happy to try and provide other info if that helps.

I, too, am looking for roots from Moletai. My GGG-parents are Beines (Binyamin) Rybak and Sara / Nehama, apparently nee Fischer. They apparently left Moletai sometime in the 1890s and moved to Vilna. There is quite a number of people named Rybak from Moletai that lived in Vilna in those years, but I never managed to link to any of them.

The couple had one daughter that moved to Glasgow, Esther (and Aron) Peters. I found some of the descendants. My GGF Nachum Yosef and his brother Haim remained in Vilna, Between the two brothers, only two grandchildren of my GGF had survived. Another brother emigrated "somewhere" and had at least two daughters, Ruth and Mary. Apparently there were more siblings but I do not know.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think around 1890 and 1900 the Jewish population of Moletai was only around 2000. you would think someone could gather all those that lived there. Anyone know anyway to organize this?

I know of a book from the 1980s covering a Rybak family (not mine) from Moletai. starting is the 1850s. I do not know which of the people there lived in Moletai. Apparently, the tree is stored at MyHeritage somewhere. That can be a start.
