Hello my name is Kyle and my aunt has done genealogy on the Ferrand side of the family and claim that a genealogy has found Persian Jewish ancestors who came over from France and became Catholic and married into the Ferrand family. The Ferrand family moved to South America, and eventually the United States. However I wanted to find out more about this side of the family and I’m not sure if my aunt has the right information? I can trace my French family to south eastern France, but I have no idea if there was any Persian Jews in France in the late 1800s. I’ve hit a brick wall on the South American side of my family since I don’t know how to access those records, but I figured people here might be able to help me find information about the Persian Jewry diaspora in Europe.

Hi,
My name is Yousef Moradzadeh.
I created the Moradzadeh/ Gabbay Family Tree.
From my father side, as lunch as I know are Persian whom they may have come to Iran from Israel some 2,500 years ago. My mother side (GABBAY) they came to Iran from Iraq, approximately 200 hundred yeas ago.

Do you take a DNA test? When I first took my it said I had a lot of Persian ancestry but not Persian Jewish. Is this common? It was with ancestry.com?

The only way you can find any distant relatives will be through DNA testing. Finding documents from late 1800s/early 1900s is nearly impossible. If this family moved from Persia to France, their distant relatives probably don't even know about them at this point.

On 23&me Persian-Jewish test takers have "Iranian" as their result. There is no specific differentiator between Persian Jews and other "Iranian" groups like Persians of any religion, Kurds, Lurs, etc. I'm sure ancestry.com is the same.

Okay well the DNA test aren’t accurate so it could’ve easily been a mistake. It’s just when I took the test and told my family the results that’s when they took me about what my Aunt Diana found when she hire the genealogist. And given that the DNA companies don't single out Persian Jewish ancestry the geneticist must’ve just assigned my Jewish ancestry as just Iranian. And basically what I’m getting is that Persian Jews have been leaving Iran for hundreds of years. And nobody has kept track of the diaspora, so nobody knows where their cousins wound up. And even if I had access to those French records I would’ve hit a Brick-wall trying to go back to Iran, just given the nature of Persian Jewish genealogy?
