Greetings,

I am from Brazil and I was always very curious about one of my great grandfathers. Since it was practically impossible to know anything about his past, no matter how hard I searched on the internet. No idea about his parents, roots, nothing. Recently I got a clue about him from a very distant member of our family who told me that he was a jewish immigrant from Poland who came to Brazil in the end of XIX or beginning of XX century. Apparently he adopted an ordinary Brazilian name: MARTINHO DA MOTTA SILVEIRA OR MARTINHO DA MOTA SILVEIRA. Does anyone here know where I can start a more accurate research about this great grandfather of mine.

Best Regards
from Brazil,

Hello Antonio
You could look into Passenger and Immigration records, also if he changed his name legally there would be a court record of that.
Most important I think is DNA. Your matches would be clues as to his town of origin and original name.
All good luck!
