Although there is some advise given regarding the parentage of Robert Lockwood that can be well appreciated, there appears to be sources regarding Edmond Cresswell Lockwood and Alice (Cowper) Lockwood for whom there are particular protections provided by the Puritan Great Migration Project. The general reasoning seems to be that the ancestry of Edmond Cresswell Lockwood is frequently found to be questionable and/or incorrect.
However, it seems to believed that Edmond Cresswell Lockwood was born in Combs, Mid Suffolk District, Suffold, England, on or about 2 September, 1574 and died in Combs, Mid Suffolk District, England on or about 3 March,1635 according to Find A Grave sources. However, Wiki lists his death on 23 November, 1638. A bit confusing?
Regarding his spouse, given either as Alice or Ales Cowper, born about 1569, also in Combs, Mid Suffolk District, England, there is certainty given that both were married on 3 September, 1592. She died in Combs, Mid Suffolk District, England, on 11 September, 1658.
I'm not certain that the listing of Robert Lockwood's parents as "unknown" is truly based on an "absence of factual evidence" since there are existing records, although not completely definitive in terms of secured dates, that seem to indicate who his parents were.
Therefore, I would leave this to your best judgement and if needed, additional information can be forthcoming that is based on multiple sources already identified and contributed to my family tree account with LDS Family Search.
Your thoughts are welcomed!

unknown Lockwood

Not proven to be the same as Edmund Creswell Lockwood, Sr.

Anderson points out that "the oft-stated origin of the Lockwood brothers in Combs, Suffolk, seems to be based on nothing more than finding the right names at about the right time. Further research is needed before this origin can be accepted.[6]" Thus, for now, the English origins of Edmund & his brother Robert remain unknown.

Thank you all for this wonderful discussion.
We certainly have a work in progress and one day will have it all together.
As an 8th great grand daughter I am most interested in finding all the answers we can.
Thank you all.

Private User Was asking about Anderson (who Kristin Hall quoted, above). He is Robert Charles Anderson, director of “The Great Migration Study Project” -

There is a Lockwood article in that book available, I’ll post the links.

Shows the evidence linking Robert and Edward as brothers on page 313:

(Sorry, I mean Edmund).

It does look like Robert Anderson is the current authority on the Lockwoods, and published a separate analysis of their English origins in 2004. I doubt there’s anything more recent. ?

Thank you Erica, I just found Sgt. Robert Lockwood, my 10th great grandfather through his daughter Abigail Barlow my 9th great grandmother.

Thank you Erica Howton. I'm only distantly related to him. I'm not sure why I curate him, but I remember the names of the supposed parents. I am unaware of anything more recent on the Lockwoods.

In my search, I found Edmund was Roberts Lockwoods father through this source. https://gw.geneanet.org/philateech?n=lockwood&oc=&p=edmund+.....

Not sure if this would help at all?
