John Cooper Born 1730 Berkeley SC Died 1757 Spartanburg SC
Father of the subject is listed as
Henry Cooper who was born and died in Virginia 1701-1781
Mother of the subject is listed as
Elizabeth Tyler - Townsend who was born 1697 in Lynn Massachusetts and died in 1765 in Prince William Co. Virginia.
Of course, these are all tree imports - looks like from Ancestry with no sources. Any information would be appreciated.
I am going to tag onto this one as it never got settled, it seems. Here are my notes on John Cooper, then I will post more questions:
John Cooper was probably born in Virginia around Stradford County. He may have died before his father for it appears that Henry remembered his grandson Ezekial in his will. The DAR notes that Ezekial was born in Virginia. This begs the question was Rebecca Chinners a 2nd wife of John Cooper as she was in South Carolina? Geography makes questions. Wikitree lists Elizabeth Pownall https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pownall-286 as the wife of John and they married married 30 Mar 1745 in Overwharton Parish, Stafford, Virginia. Is Elizabeth Ezekial's mother? Did she die and John marry Rebecca Chinners when John came to SC in 1757? More research is needed. SFG

The first Chinner in this country was Thomas Chinner, who received a land grant in June, 1697 in Berkeley County. He was an Indian trader. He had two sons, one of whom was Captain Isaac Chinners who removed to Craven County with a grant of land in September, 1736. He was a captain in Little Pee Dee Company in the Craven County Regiment that was commanded by Col. George Pawley. This was in 1757. He died circa 1766. Isaac Chinners' daughter (Sarah or Rebecca) married John Cooper, b. 1730.
The first Cooper in Craven County, Carolina (later to be Georgetown and Horry Districts of South Carolina) was John Cooper, b. circa 1730. He received a grant of land there in 1757. This is the John Cooper who married Sarah or Rebecca Chinners. They had at least three children. Their oldest son was named Ezekiel Cooper, b.1761, d. 1828. Ezekiel Cooper was a merchant, Methodist minister and Revolutionary War patriot who helped the cause of the Colonies with produce, money and supplies. Ezekiel Cooper married Sarah Martha Magby, d. 1839. Ezekiel Cooper and Sarah Martha Magby Cooper had five children; their second son, Timothy Cooper, b. 1803, married Mary Harriet Beaty, b. 1807. These were the parents of Adeline Cooper Burroughs.
Questions:
1. What is the source for his middle name Bossier? It does not appear in records noted before 1757, but only in succeeding generations.
2. Who is the "John Cooper" mentioned in the following land deeds from the SC Archives before 1730 date of birth noted for this one? Are they connected?

Also noted are numerous listings for court judgements for the mysterious John Cooper who was before this one in South Carolina, though located in Berkeley District.

Right now, Ezekial Cooper is still attached to John as a son. At one time, another possible son was attached Aaron Cooper, Sr. . He was detached with a note that John died before he (and Ezekial) were born. Well, not likely, since John received a land grant in 1757 and reportedly died circa 1766.
