Several of this Richard II's children were born in Virginia but his wife's profile shows she was born and died in England. His Find-a-Grave page indicates his wife's name 'may' have been Mary but that actually no proof of his wife's name has been found:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/110562822/richard-anderson - this IS the correct Richard, son of Richard Anderson I and his wife Elizabeth Hawkins.

"There is no record of a name for his wife, however one of their children was named Bartelot Anderson. The practice at the time was to name a child using the maiden name of the mother, and so it is widely believed by many family members that his wife's maiden name was Bartelot. There are records of a Mary Anderson, and it could be suggested that his wife's name was Mary, but it hasn't been proven that this Mary Anderson was indeed married to this Richard Anderson."

There IS a descendant Robert Anderson who was married to a Mary Overton, daughter of William Overton. Is it possible the two Overton women have become confused and this one is incorrectly connected?

Mary Anderson - this one who lived and died in England

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/110571338/mary-elizabeth-anderson - the one married to Robert Anderson, daughter of William Overton and who immigrated to Virginia

IF this: Mary Anderson

IS the "Mary' mentioned on the Find-a-Grave page for her husband Richard Anderson II, her maiden name seems to have been unknown. Her About section says she died in VA, which would make more sense, but her profile shows she died in England. BUT, I'm wondering if this Mary Elizabeth Overton was only the wife of the other husband shown, Thomas Brumfield/Bromfield/Br..Immigrant, and wasn't married to Richard Anderson II at all or else it seems that would been documented as well. 'Maybe' part of the confusion is from the fact that Richard Anderson II had a sister named Elizabeth who married Thomas Brumfield:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/207401937/elizabeth-brumfield

But nothing I've seen indicates that Richard's wife also married a Brumfield, especially since her name wasn't known.

The only 'evidence' showing that Richard Anderson II married a Mary Elizabeth Overton is some Ancestry SmartCopy info, which just came from someone's personal tree(s) and isn't otherwise sourced to anything. The only sourced info is:

American Genealogical-Biographical Index (AGBI) Name: Mary Anderson Birth Date: 1620 Volume: 04 Page Number: 114 Reference: Genealogical hist. Of Will. Shepard, of Fossecut, Northamptonshire, Eng. By Geo. L. Shepard. Salem, Ms. 1886. (63p.): 43 Source Information Godfrey Memorial Library, comp.. American Genealogical-Biographical Index (AGBI) [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 1999. Original data: Godfrey Memorial Library. American Genealogical-Biographical Index. Middletown, CT, USA: Godfrey Memorial Library.

Which only gives info on a Mary Anderson and doesn't indicate if that was her married or birth name. So how do we know that's even for the same person. Just naming her as Mary Anderson 'could' tie in with the Mary mentioned on Richard's Find-a-Grave page, but there is nothing in that sourced info to indicate she was an Overton

Since these are my direct ancestors, I want to have the correct information and I haven't seen any proof for Mary Elizabeth Overton as the wife of this Richard Anderson II and even her geography doesn't match him and their children being in America. If someone has better evidence for this connection, please share it and shed some light on a wife who died in England.

Thanks in advance for any assistance on clarifying / correcting these connections.

This book mentions Richard Anderson II:

https://books.google.com/books?id=4RCglni-o4IC&pg=PA8&lpg=P...

but does not name his wife.

If you scroll on down from Richard II, it lists his grandson Robert Anderson II who was married to Elizabeth Overton, daughter of William Overton.

As far as I've seen, that's the only Anderson-Overton couple I've seen documented. Not to say there may not be others, but I haven't come across any others in my research on this branch of the family.

I also can't find anything documenting him as a Rev., so if anyone has that info, please post in his profile.

Additionally, where did the wife Joanie Anderson come into play? She's not listed anywhere as his wife, that I've seen.

Correction...even I'm getting these same-name folks confused! The book on Google doesn't refer to her as Elizabeth Overton but rather as Mary Overton, daughter of William Overton.

I'm back here again with the same questions about the maiden name of the wife of Rev. Richard Anderson II, things don't add up, in my opinion.
