Can anybody find where it is recorded that Richard was captain of the guard for William the Conqueror? I cannot.

Captain Richard de la Warde

Is there any somewhat solid validation of Richard being captain of the guard?
I was looking for one to add as a source. A claim this significant on a medieval profile should have some evidence. Someone of this caliber would have a reference no matter how small somewhere. I would like there to be but, I couldn't find his name or variation of on the roll of Falaise or anywhere else.

Private User I know nothing about Captain Richard de la Warde

Possibly try to track this reference: Richard de la Warde, “Noble Captain de la Warde" ( Captain of the Guards) is recorded as one of the Norman knights who accompanied William the Conqueror, in the Battle of Hastings, during the Norman Conquest of England. The name Warde can be translated as "of the guards".?

I think of you as the resident expert on medieval history.
I thought you might know where to go for a look. I found the same thing you did. It seems like there should be something more than that.

Thanks for the reply.

Keep looking. Let me know what you find :-)
