In June of 1893, a biography of W.J. Hicks, SON of Adry Hicks, many spelling variations, was printed

For whatever reason, amateur genealogists have since decided that Allen must have been an invention and decided to call him the son of Joseph... and for MANY years the public trees for Joseph featured an artist rendition of a young Native American man. And then the next generation of amateur genealogists talked about a legend of a young Native American man who "escaped the Trail of Tears" and met a young Nancy Hicks and took her last name in order to avoid recapture.

I believe some of the legend. I wonder WHY "we" abandoned the biography.

I am disconnecting from Joseph and Nancy. I "choose" Allen and have already found him in the census I cannot find Adry in. And since I am the one who found Adri Heix in the 1840 census, I am choosing to trust my instincts and I welcome discussion and collaboration on this line.

This is probably the most difficult disconnection I have ever made on Geni but I trust the process.

Thank you.

The age for the son of Allen fits Adry.

Adry died in 1855 here.
I still do not know his reason for being there but can only surmise that either he was of Chickasaw ancestry or his wife was.

Waiting for more info.

Adry is presumed to have died there and Nancy is buried in Love County, Oklahoma.
