Francis Self is not relationship locked, there’s no reason given for a disconnect (inconsistency is not good enough reason), and “who” (link) they were disconnected from should be linked in the “about,” with reason, or the error will just re occur.

I was able to choose one set of parents for Francis. I disconnected Eliza. She died at under 1 year of age perhaps but without sources, there is no way to decide who belongs where.

The "error" is due to public trees with no sources and the children are all same names and ages but some go to one couple and some to the other.

If one can locate a list of names, or if the children were to have spouses and children attached, it would be much more condusive to filling in the family trees but Gedcom uploads have had an impact

Children were listed in Stephen Self’s profile.

Stephen SELF (Robert ) was born before 1673 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He died about 1731 in Westmoreland County, Virginia.

The wife of Stephen Self may have died before him. She is not mentionedin his Will.

Stephen married UNKNOWN.

They had the following children:

  • + 17 M i Stephen SELF was born before 1692 and died after 1747.
  • + 18 M ii Francis SELF was born after 1692.
  • 19 F iii Eliza SELF was born Feb 23 1699. There is some controversy regarding the birth date of Eliza Self. Thedate may be 1679.
  • 20 M iv Walter SELF was born about 1700. He died about 1747.
  • Walter married MARY about 1735.
  • + 21 M v Phillip SELF was born about 1710.
  • 22 M vi Benjamin SELF was born about 1713.
  • + 23 M vii Job I SELF was born about 1715.

I do not know whether Stephen Self had two wives. He certainly was married to Jane Joyce Allison

There’s not really a need for new research, there is a need for additional bios in profiles. That’s something for you & descendants to do, as the information is already in the curated profiles. Feel free to rewrite if you don’t follow the notes, but don’t over write the research done.

I am merging, as it’s the Gedcom that’s throwing you off. Quite understandable.

Well, it does look like Stephen Self had a 1st wife and Jane Joyce survived him and remarried. But need to make sure this isn’t Stephen Jr or something.

It’s because I’m the only person who ever tried to do anything but merge.

Merging is useless if there’s no biography, incomplete sourcing, etc. and will inevitably fail because it is guessing.

That first wife was DESPERATELY needed with the “known” wife being twenty years younger
They look really great now.
I have been waiting to work on my Self line but not quite ready to dig in.
I am thinking all the Self descendants up to a certain (modern time) in America are from Olde Robert Self.
