my name is Jasmin Geipel, I am an historian working currently in the city archive of the small city Treuen in Saxony, Germany.
This year we are celebrating 1.700 years of Jewish life in Germany. Due to this, there will be many exhibitions across the country linked to this topic. With regards to this I researched for Family Herzfeld, who lived in Treuen from 1906 to 1938. Siegbert Herzfeld, son of Baruch and Golda (Olga) Herzfeld, née Brandt, owned a clothing store next to the city hall. Siegbert and his wife Martha, née Mahler, as well as his brother – who lived in Plauen – Martin and his wife Irma, née Berwin, where deported from Plauen to Theresienstadt on September 08th 1942 where Martin and Siegbert died. Irma and Martha where killed in Auschwitz in October 1944.
When I searched for the Treuener Family Herzfeld I found an article about Martin Herzfelds Family on Geni.com which you might wrote. Due to this, I was asking if it is possible, to have a kind of an exchange of information about the Family Herzfeld.
The daughter of Martha and Siegbert Herzfeld, Marianne survived the Holocaust. She was saved through one of the last Refugee Children´s Movement to England in July 1939. In England she met her future husband Marcus Schechter, who came originally from Wien, Austria. Later they moved to Israel, where his father and younger brother already lived. The had four children, 12 grand-children and more than 20 grand-grand-children. In 2020 I had the chance to talk to Mariannes daughter-in-law who told me, that Marianne died in April 2018. She also told me, that Marianne always talked about her German hometown Treuen, about her uncle Martin and her aunt Irma as well as her cousins Eva and Lora.
