Thomas James Hudson Writes:
Managers of Anna Hudson, of Virginia,
I am contacting you about this profile: https://www.geni.com/people/Anna-Hudson-of-Virginia/600000002403498...
Anna is my 8th great grandmother. She married John Hudson, my 8th great grandfather. I have done extensive searches - including hiring an historian in the Westmoreland County area - to find out more about her. I've found very little, yet remain committed to clarifying which Graye/Gray family she came from.
I am writing to see if you have any concrete evidence that she is the daughter of Thomas Graye, Ancient Planter, who lived in the Jamestown area (Surry/Grays Creek). On the rare occasions when I find mention of her (most of which are in Geni, MyHeritage, Wikitree, and similar geneology websites), she is consistently shown as his daughter. However, most references to Thomas Graye in these sites do not mention her.
You may know that the only substantial census in that period was the Muster of 1624. She is, of course, not listed because she was born the next year. Adding to this unfortunate coincidence, Thomas had three wives. A few sites I've seen list and name his wives and their children and then conclude with something like "and two others" - not showing any names. I keep hoping to come across a site with more details but have not so far.
For years, I have worked on the assumption that Anna is indeed a daughter of Thomas. In this context, I have very extensive records going back to pre-1000 times. I would be happy to share this information with you. I just want to make sure - have certainty - that she is from Thomas' family.
There are at least two other alternative lineages that I know of. One is the Francis Gray of Maryland line. You may know that he moved to the Machodoc area from Maryland and could have been - or his extended family - related to her. The other is related to evidence that there may have been a second Thomas Gray in Virginia at the same time as Thomas Graye Ancient Planter. I continue to pursue both of these possibilities, but so far have been unsuccessful in resolving the question of her family ties.
My Hudson family remains present in the Fredericksburg, Virginia area to this day. My Hudson line (beginning with the first to come to the colonies) is William III, John, Joshua, Caleb, Valentine Sr, Valentine Jr, Joshua, Charles Henry, Charles Lee, Charles Franklin Sr, Charles Franklin Jr, and myself - Thomas James Hudson. If you are interested, I have the Hudson/Hutchinson line much further back than that.
Thank you in advance for anything you might be able to share about Anna Hudson. I look forward to the possibility of communicating with you.
Kind regards,
Tom Hudson
