A fine old character in the person of Mr. James Watt, sen., died at his residence, Tomerong, on Thursday last, aged 76. The deceased had lived 50 years at Tomerong, and was well known and highly esteemed. His wife predeceased him by 31 years. The late Mr. Watt had a family of twelve, and all are living excepting one. The sons are Councillor Jas. Watt (Clyde Shire) ; Mr William Watt, Wandandian ; Ensign Malcolm Watt, of the Salvation Army, Nowra ; Messrs. Andrew and Charles, of Tomerong ; and Messrs. Alexander, John, Ernest, and Arthur, of the Richmond River district. There are two daughters— Mrs. Thomas James and Miss Maggie Watt, both residing at Tomerong. The deceased leaves two sisters, still well known to many Shoalhaven people— Mrs. Alex. Bryce, of Blackall Range, Queensland ; and Mrs. Alex. Mathie, of Tomerong. Although he never occupied or sought any public position the late Mr. Watt evinced considerable interest in political and municipal affairs, and even after physical infirmities confined him to his home, he was wont to discuss with visitors various local matters of public importance with keen enthusiasm. His remains will be interred this (Saturday) afternoon at Nowra cemetery.
