Is there solid documentation for the dates of birth for this Ann and her mother?

Wife of William Williams

Verlinda's date of birth was showing 1722 and Ann's is showing as February 1670, which makes it impossible for Verlinda to have been her mother if the dates are correct, and resulting in the Geni inconsistency report.

I checked Ancestry trees and found folks on there have Verlinda born 1699 in Maryland, not 1722.. Either way, the dates still don't work for a child born in 1670.

Verlinda's About section only mentions her date of death, not when she was born. So my best guess is that unless there is documentation, her date of birth is actually not solidly known. I found some census records for her but they were the type that listed slaves she owned and not her own date of birth. Still, on the 1790 census she was in Maryland, not Virginia:

Name: Verlinda Williams
Home in 1790 (City, County, State)Prince Georges, Maryland
Free White Persons - Males - 16 and over: 3
Free White Persons - Females 2
Number of Slaves 42
Number of Household Members 47

Again on the 1800 census she is found in Maryland, not Virginia...and it's another slaveholder listing, with 17 slaves

But I found nothing on census records to even estimate her date of birth in hopes of trying to resolve the conflict with her date of birth and that of her daughter Ann.

Trees I checked on Ancestry tend not to show any parents for Ann and the one that does has this for her:

Mary Ann WILLIAMS

BIRTH: Feb 1670 Isle of Wight, Isle of Wight, Virginia, American Colonies, USA

DEATH: 24 Jul 1721 Isle of Wight, VA

sources (8)records (7)photos (4)

Father: :John Williams (1651–1691)
Mother: Elizabeth Ann Williams (1654–1694)
Spouse: John A Browne (1666–1729)

The dates and places are identical.

Hoping someone can help resolve the problem that everything that has been posted for Verlinda makes her younger than her daughter Ann.

Debbie Gambrell on William Williams page his wife is Verlinda is his wife and Ann Browne is his adopted daughter...?

I don't see anything about an adoption, Polly. But when I read his About section...Ann isn't listed among his children with Verlinda:

William married Verlinda Lamar. Together they had the following children: Benjamin Williams; Bridget Browne; Charles Williams; Jacob Williams; Sarah Suter; Amos Williams; Eleanor Hardesty.

That could explain why their dates conflict as mother and daughter. But where are you seeing about Ann being his adopted child?

Im seeing as adopted daughter as well.

Debbie Gambrell hold on and I'll show you... down on our pages it lists other family members...on William page it shows Ann as adopted...I screenshot it...can I send it to you?

From Verlinda page...

I was looking up in the profile section rather than at the bottom, but I found it. So, this explains the age conflict, but if these were her adopted parents, their upline shouldn't be showing as direct ancestors for Ann, which they are.

The profile section doesn't have them connected a adopted, so I'm not sure how it's showing up down in the bottom section.

In any case, this changes my direct upload and the folks showing as my ancestors really aren't. That's affecting the upline of others as well, causing us to have incorrect kinship pathways.

This is where I was looking, and there's nothing about adoptive parents, this from Verlinda's page>

Wife of William Williams, Nottoway
Mother of Benjamin Williams; Charles Williams; Amos Williams; Bridget Browne (Williams); Jacob Williams; Sarah Suter (Williams); Eleanor Hardesty (Williams) and Ann Browne (Williams)

I've never seen it show adoptive down in the bottom section when it's not connected that way in the tree, that I recall...but I discovered that under Ann's Relationship tab the parents are listed as adoptive. So that's why it shows in the bottom, but I don't know if it's a glitch or what as to why they don't show as adoptive parents in the profile listing and why she's connected as a biological descendant of her adoptive parents' lines.

Anyway...that definitely explains the inconsistency, which wouldn't be showing if it was still connecting her as if she's their biological child. I can't fix that, so I'm just going to click to 'ignore' the inconsistency.

Maybe one of you know how to fix it so she's not connecting as if she's their biological descendant. And I really hate that, because that removes one of the lines I thought was an Old Cheraw line for me. Thankfully, I have more than one, but still...sigh...lol

Best to ask David Cremeans.

This family has been so messed up by errant merges, it needs to be deleted and started from scratch. I am a descendant William Williams and Verlinda Lamar. I’ve done extensive research on William Williams and his family. They have no connection whatsoever to this Native American “data” that has been merged into them. Whoever has butchered the data I originally posted 10+ years ago has done a disservice to everybody who is researching this family. It is as travesty. I refuse to play any part in the furtherance of this garbage mythology.

Wife of William Williams Disconnected from Lamar. You are free to work your tree backwards and we will steer clear of Lamar.

Private User hello cousin. I am excited to see your changes!! Thank you for all your hard work!

I'm back here and still trying to understand something. I understand the disconnect from the Lamar line. But why did that end up disconnecting

Ann Browne

from her father?

I never did understand what was going on with all the disconnects. All I could tell was my line got disconnected. It all went right over my head as to 'why', so I just let it go. However, I kept her connected to her father in my personal tree and just listed her mother as 'Mother of Ann (Willams) Brown.

Wouldn't this non-Lamar wife of William Williams have been the mother of Ann as well as his other children with her?

Wife of William Williams

I never understood why Ann was the only child cut from all parents since her line had supposedly been worked and confirmed previously. And I don't understand how Ann's children are listed as Old Cheraw if she didn't have Old Cheraw parentage.

I hope someone can help me understand. Thanks.

Cousin Debbie, you are probably going to have to ask Rachelle in a private message since Geni suspended her, and she is no longer able to see or respond to anything here. Seems folks on here are trying to whitewash our lines. Due to that and Rachelle not being able to be here, i am letting my Geni account go next time it is up for renewal. Also, bc they banned our tribal historian...and because My Heritage is an affiliate i will no longer pay for them either. Geni has disconnected several of my lines, one was my Overhill Cherokee line. What they dont know is that we have proof of those lines. My Lindsey line is screwed up due to someone putting in wrong info. A man from Clan Lindsey in Scotland let me know that awhile back. They leave my European lines alone even when wrong, but disconnect my NA lines from time to time. I dont need another Plecker doing his dirt! I have the right people connected on my private tree. Im just very tired of Geni curators doing what they please with family lines. I have a genealogist working on some of my lines now to correct things. I dont really need any of this anymore as i have my private tree over on Ancestry. Good luck in finding what you need to here. I would not disconnect any lines unless Rachelle says to.

Beverly Renee Hallman Marsh, Gedmatch Kit #XK9447597 I responded privately to you. I agree, it is beyond frustrating to come on Geni and find our lines cut. I, too, use Ancestry for treebuilding and to preserve my lines, because I can't trust they won't be messed with here on Geni. We know the years of DNA research that many collaborated on regarding the Native lines Rachelle vetted and connected on Geni. I trust what we know was done and came from that group because I was fortunate enough to be a small part of it. So, I'm disheartened to learn she has been suspended from Geni. She has done so much that has helped so many.

Cousin, i think Rachelle had about had it here for the same reasons i am. The thing is...she is the one that had us all come over here and be paying members...and then they suspended her or muted her or whatever they did. Shes not concerned though because her work was done here basically. And people would not listen to her about our Native lines.. they just disconnected when others said something, and disregarded our hard work. Shes busy doing other things like all of us lol. Hopefully we all will get to meet up in Texas this year.

I was notified about this thread as my first cousin's husband is a descendant. Found a duplicat of one of his grands on this profile William W. Brown
