Hi There!
I was just curious if anyone here might have an interest in the village of Poru or in the last names Herranen or Suomalainen.
I am fairly certain that my grandparents used to live in Poru.
Their names were

Juhani Suomalainen 1907-11-01 - 1987-12-08
Sofia Herranen 1908-09-26 - 1988-10-01

So if anyone might recognize these name please write down a line or two because I could use all the help I can get trying to learn more abuut this family line.

Some help as to how This site actually work/how you should use it would also be very welcomed!

With kind regards
Kalle

Hi Kalle,

Your grandmother Sofia was originally from Väärälä village, her parents were Antti Matinpoika Herranen (10.03.1881 Väärälä - 22.05.1931 Väärälä) and Saara Jakontytär Huttunen (24.02.1887 Väärälä - 15.03.1936 Väärälä). see her family here (page 114): https://drive.google.com/file/d/14KSEu_wWwTHdt58YSL5tnjr0e9r_qmt8/v...

Sofia (or Sohvi) and Juhana married in 11.08.1929 in Venjoki, Juhana was from Kekälekylä. His parents were Mikkel Adaminpoika Suomalainen (born 03.12.1885 Kekälekylä) and Katri Tahvontytär Hämäläinen (born 06.03.1873). You can see his family here with more relatives (page 4): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xGe-wuhep4oHLyZH_b6Fr38RTGGqT22p/v...

There are no indications however of them living in Poru, maybe they were there sometime later?

How to use this site? Just keep building your tree, sooner or later you will have matches with profiles entered by other users, you'll see a notification of a possible match when that happens. After merging the two similar profiles your trees will be connected and you can continue building your shared familytree.

If you need help with something, just ask, someone will always help.

Best regards,
Magnus

Thank you so much Magnus!

I am fairly certain though that my grandparents lived in Poru at least once because my mother's older brother told me that he was born there and that they used to play on a bridge over a river called Izhora.

Hmm Maybe one could find:

Veinö Suomalainen 1934-10-11
Eino Suomalainen 1937-01-01

Or maybe those records are still protected for integrity reasons?

As for this page. my biggest problem is that when I try to match my tree with others this page wants me to pay for a membership. Could it be so easy that you have to pay to be able match with others?

Maybe even more interesting where/how did you find the infromation from Venjoki? :)

You can find links to different archival resources here: https://www.inkeri.ru/virt/p.php?id=38 Some are available online for free, for others (not linked) you have to pay for access at the online archive of St. Petersburg's Historical Archives' website: https://spbarchives.ru/

The two links in my previous post are from Rippikirja 1924-1938, the first book, found entirely here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1PLvl4EKgDC_jrgkqcCu-5cYJhRu3-e7y
There was also a son Antti (03.04.1931 Kekälekylä - 04.10.1931 Kekälekylä), who died young: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dDHDufNqwzYQCv4SoX5ueuEa0JcN4dx0/v...

At the end of 1941 your grandparents were still living in Kekälekylä (1942 kylien asukasluettelo): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R6_pUDHSvaHUgK-wPzJoF9bTFw5plB4f/v...
But Kekälekylä, Väärälä and Poru were all neigbouring villages, all located by the river Izhora, perhaps there were some friends or relatives in Poru, whom your uncle visited as a child.

As to using the site, you can pay for membership if you can and want to, it would make some things easier, but you defenitely don't have to, you can still do things with a free account. See these pages for further instructions for mergeing profiles:

Dear Magnus!
Thanks a lot for your help!
I am going to see if I can find a tutorial on youtube because it is usually easier to understand these things if you can "see" how you should do things as well. :)
Again thanks a lot for your help!
/Kalle

I forgot one thing, it is obvious that i need to go map hunting first of all so I can get a better picture of where these small villages are situated... :)

Here is a map of Ingrian parishes and villages: https://www.digicarelica.fi/Kartat?DocumentID=c2ef45a6-9c1b-441a-b8...

Thank you so much for that link!

Kalle! You have a douplicate profile? :) https://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000177069605827

Yes there is a huge risk I might have that.
Don't ask me how though because all I tried to do was to upload my family tree. And then I am not sure what happened....
Any suggestions as to how to fix it would be grately appreciated! :)
Sincerly
Kalle
