According to these notes in his About section, it seems both the fathers attached to this John Toliver are disputed. If neither set of parents can be proven, it would be best to disconnect them so the Geni pathways aren't incorrect.

I was tracing a line on a DNA match and had to stop here because I don't know which way to go or whether this John is a brick wall as far as who his parents were. I may or may not be related to him, but until his parental conflict is sorted / corrected, neither I nor anyone else can be certain.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Well, I'm back with the same problem. I'm tracing a DNA cousin line on Ancestry and they are a descendant of Jesse Tolivar whose father they have listed as this John. But I have to stop here because I still don't have confidence in the lineage connected beyond this John here on Geni.

But even more than that, there are conflicting sets of parents connected for this John and that needs to be sorted.

Thanks in advance for any additional information / clarification.

Notes in profile.

John Toliver is the presumed father of the five Toliver "brothers" (Moses, William, Jesse, John, and Charles) who appear in the records in Surry County, NC, in 1771. The Brothers had two "sisters", Sarah Toliver who married David Hickerson, and Lucy Toliver who married William Maxwell.

Nothing is known about the mysterious father of the "Five Brothers." Jesse Toliver's family Bible, which is preserved in his Revolutionary War pension file, has the name "JOHN TOLIVER, J." (Jr.?) written at the top of a page over the name Jesse Toliver, followed by a list of Jesse Toliver's children. This seems to suggest that Jesse Toliver's father was named John Toliver. However, there is still a lot of speculation and debate about the origin of the Five Brothers.

Disconnected from parents not even speculated and locked relationships.

Also disconnected from wife / wives. Names are speculative and unsupported by the Tolliver Family site.

I'm from a branch that kept the Taliaferro spelling and don't really know a lot about my cousin branches, but I prefer not to have connections on Geni that are total speculation. So thank so much for assisting with this.
