I wonder if there is proof of the birth in 1800 in Levoca, or was it maybe just registered in Levoca? I don't think Jewish children were born in Levoca itself in 1800, Jews were not allowed to settle there to my knowledge in those years.

Hi - I know it's been a while, but this geni tree has a few errors on it. From the records I've found, Leni's birthplace is unknown - not mentioned on any document. The Bergers lived outside of the village of Leibicz in Szepes during the early 1820/30s from what I've found. More specifically, many records list "Schwefelbad" as their residence. I found a couple postcards from Slovakia (then Hungary) with "Leibitzer Schwefelbad" printed on them - which means Leibicz sulfer baths. Emanuel's birth lists his birthplace as Felso-repas, which is a few miles east of Leibicz, so they probably lived in the countryside inbetween the two towns.

Hello Aidan Tisch, thank you for the reply. Much apreciated. Yes, that makes more sense. Indeed, Schwefelbad was a spa, a few km outside of Lubica, and was destroyed in the fifties, when a military area was established in that valey.
It's precious that you recognize some errors - it would be really great if you could fix them.
Are you connected to these families?
All the best for 2024!
