On my wife’s side, she had a great grandmother who claimed to be 1/4 part Indian, possibly Abenaki. But Mary Elkins is further back, so it’s difficult to determine which ancestor was Indian.
Some trees have Mary Elkins listed as 1/2 indian (Abenaki?). With her father being Thomas Elkins and mother Hannah Fogg, it begs the question…. Was Hannah a full blooded Indian or was Hannah adopted or was Hannah the result of Thomas having an Indian wife early on or was Mary adopted ?
Trying dig into records of New England indians and other possible records of settlers marrying indians or adoptions.
Does anyone have such information?
