Geni lists Rev. Edward ("Ed") Nelson as the son of John Nelson and an unnamed Cherokee freedwoman. Is there any documentation to support this relationship? According to multiple census records, Edward was born in Louisiana in 1862, but I don't see that John Nelson had any connection to Louisiana.

Thanks. I did find a John Nelson in Lafourche, LA listed as a slaveholder in the 1860 slave schedules, so it's possible this is the John Nelson who supposedly fathered Edward Nelson with a Cherokee freedwoman.
