I can find absolutely no evidence that this ancestor was ever a General Officer in the United States Army or the Pennsylvania Militia. Does anyone have any evidence that he was? If so, please let me know. Thanks.

I agree, Frank -- it looks like perhaps someone misread the "General note" lines in his service indices on-line and thought they meant he was a general? I've edited it to make him a private, which is what the records say, and I've locked in the correct info. Thanks for flagging this!
