Apparently my 6th great grand uncle David McNair married Delilah Amelia Vann (Cherokee) daughter of Chief James Vann II Vann (Cherokee).

My 7th great grand uncle William Trapper Terry married into the Cheraw.

What is interesting here is that I share Native DNA with two cousins in this family but I believe only one is from a Native line. I could explain the the match with William Trappers decendent because I am a decendent of FNU Colby who was Cheraw but not the other McNair decendent unless there is another Native in the tree.

We can only 'assume' you are referring to Delilah Amelia McNair but you 'omit' any help here by excluding the Profiles.

According to Geni, Delilah Amelia McNair (Vann) is my 17th cousin five times removed.

There is a William 'Trapper' Terry, II listed, who Geni recognizes as my 10th great aunt's niece's husband, though 'no blood relationship.'

It helps the Discussion if you include some identification as to who the subjects are you speak of.

Just for the record, Joseph Putnam is my 7th cousin, again, as per Geni; but, you've got all your connections 'Privated-out' so I can't see anything further.

Joseph Putnam is your 7th cousin.

Yeah, I only within the last 2 or 3 years 'discovered' the Norwood line myself -- via a distant cousin (DNA proven). Our 3rd great grandmothers were sisters and Norwoods. But I'm somewhat unfamiliar with the Norwoods also.

Delilah Amelia McNair is your 6th cousin five times removed.

European ancestors though.

Samuel Porter Norwood is not the Samuel Norwood that was born in 1880 and remained his entire life in South Carolina. Samuel Porter Norwood was in Georgia early in the 1800’s. He was a part of the defense of the Cherokee’s land claims, with his brother-in-law, William Henderson Underwood, who argued for the Cherokee’s rights to keep their land before the U.S. Supreme Court. Underwood won the case, but Andrew Jackson decided to move the Cherokees to Oklahoma anyway

Joseph Putnam

Samuel Norwood, Jr. that's correct...b.Virginia; d.South Carolina.

Thank you
