Hello Private User - places have had names changed, borders moved etc. etc. through the years/centuries and as we are dealing with quite a span of years on Geni it was my intention to reflect these changes in the county projects. However, in the case of burial grounds and cemeteries the location is the same physically, but more often than not the name it is now has changed. So when looking for a grave you want the current place name reflected in your search. I would be happy to change the names of this and like projects, but I also think we need to reflect the historical names as well - records reflect where an event took place at the time of the event. What do you suggest the name of the project should be?

Shires originated in the twelfth century when the office of sheriff was introduced to Scotland. These shires eventually became the counties of Scotland, some but not all of whose names incorporate the word "shire".

The sheriffdom of Edinburgh became the shire of Edinburgh, or Edinburgh-shire, which name was subsequently changed to Midlothian.

I prefer to use the pre-1974 County names:
