Amelia Mayne was born Emilie Reincke. She was born in either Luxembourg or Germany in 1853 & arrived in Melbourne with her family on the "La Rochelle" on 27 Jan 1857. Her parents being Peter Carl Friederick Reincke (1828-1902) & Catherine Maria Henriette Bussan (1828-1902).

Amelia's maiden name was incorrectly recorded on her marriage certificate. The name Emilie, pronounced in German sounds like Emilia which became Amelia.

There are two items of proof that Emilie became Amelia.

Firstly, her son, Colonel Reincke Mayne, was given her maiden name as his middle name.

Secondly, when her father died in January 1902, Amelia 48 years old, was listed as one of the surviving children.

The reason I suspect Amelia was born in Luxembourg was that in the 1934 electoral roll she had written the words " Bream" being her address as Bream St. Coogee NSW & "Luxembourg" in answer to another question possibly about her origin. I think she misinterpreted the question.
