Jacob Pimentel Fonseca and Blanca Pimentel Fonseca have 2 sons with the same name which seems very unlikely

Phineas Pimentel Fonseca

  • Born 1788
  • died 1856 although buried in 1837
  • 1798 married Leah Fonseca when he was just 10 years old
  • children born between 1809 and 1812

Can anyone add any sources to these profiles?

I was just about to create a Discussion from Phineas Pimentel Fonseca
That is the top Phineas, with wife Leah.

Because yesterday Jeffrey Michael Maynard
posted https://www.geni.com/discussions/247138?msg=1551977
"Look at this profile: Phineas Pimentel Fonseca

This Phineas is not the son of Jacob. His marriage record states that he is the son of Phineas Phineas. If you look at the revision list you can see that the profile has been butchered!"

And on the profile itself yesterday he posted:
"Note: He is the son of 'Pinhas" (i.e. Phineas) da Fonseca Pimentel, married to Leah Jacobs on 27th Sivan 5558. (Bevis Marks Records, Part II, number 1355.) - Jeffrey Maynard."

And now, two hours ago, a new merge was done on the profile by Jill Chesler

--

Hilary Westbury nee Joseph until Jill's merge two hours ago, you and Jeffrey were the only two who had worked on this profile.

Can you and Jeffrey - or you, Jeffrey and Jill -- get it fixed?

I'm afraid I can't help. I'm only an amateur and had to stop researching my ancestors as it was all getting too complicated. If it helps at all, when trying to find my Fonseca line I eventually discovered that in the 1841 Census Samuel's surname was incorrectly entered as FONSION living with wife Catherine nee Marks at 6 Providence Place. In the 1851 Census the surname appears as FOMINA. Pimentel or Pimental seemed to have been dropped by then. I was never able to ascertain whether Phineas had 2 wives, Leah and perhaps subsequently Keturah but it is my understanding that my ggggrandfather was Phineas' son Samuel.

What needs to be fixed? I don't remember adding any profiles. I am happy to help if I can.

Hi
What helps is for sources to be added to the profiles.

With sources it is easier for curators unfamiliar with the profiles to make changes.

1) For the bottom Phineas - Phineas Pimentel Fonseca -
Would you please note on his overview his dates of birth, marriage, and death and where each date comes from (plus any other info you have)

2) Thank you for creating a separate father for the top Phineas - Phineas Pimentel Fonseca - so the two are no longer brothers
-- born circa 1788 does not fit with married in June 1798, buried circa 1837 does not fit with died circa 1856. - I am thinking those two dates came from the other Phineas -- any reason we cannot delete those two dates?
--Is there any reason to believe the Death date of circa 1856 belongs to this profile? Any reason to believe the Birth Location is correct?

3) On Sunday you added a Display Name for Leah Fonseca --
Geni allows us to each set our Name Preferences, so with no Displayed Name actually entered, I could see her as "Leah (Jacobs) Fonseca"
And you could see her as "Leah Fonseca (Jacobs)" and somebody else could see her as "Leah Jacobs". etc.
It states in https://www.geni.com/projects/Geni-Start-Here-Basics/17603 "Normally the Display Name is not used, so each user's preferences apply to how the name appears to them." And in https://www.geni.com/projects/Coalition-for-the-Standardization-of-... "Do NOT fill in the Display Name field; by leaving it empty, each person's "name preferences" will be used automatically."
WHY do you feel we should all be forced to see her as "Leah Fonseca (Jacobs)"?
