I'm helping a friend trace her family tree. She knows that Jakob is her grandfather and believes that her great-grandfather, Jakob's father, is named Moiijse. Everything that I have found points to Abraham. She has no direct knowledge and no documentation and is relying on memories told to her by relatives long past. Has anyone come across Moishe or Moses living in or near Hessen between 1836 and 1891?

I suggest that Moiijse, which is probably Moshe or Moritz, is not possible because Jakob had a brother by the name of Moritz, and if the family followed the rules of not naming a child for a living parent, then the mystery is solved.

According to Jakob's birth record , his father's name was Abraham.

Thanks for your replies.

She reached out to some of her cousins and one of them agrees with us so I think she's convinced we're right.

I have Abraham's father as Simon 1815-1893 and Simon's father as Herz. My German is very bad and I have major problems with Old German. Does anyone have ANY information on Herz?
