There has never been a William Joseph Loxton in my family.

Private User, I note that you are showing William Griffen as the Father of Albert Rich Loxton. We do not believe that this is correct.

William met Ann Loxton in North Wootton when visiting a relation. They married in 1826 and set up home in and around Islington.
However Ann gave birth to Albert Rich in December of 1821 at North Wootton. At some time her home had been at 17 Southover St, Wells.
In early 1821, Ann was sent from the Church at North Wootton as she "was a single woman with child" and thus required to be cared for by the Parish of Wells through St. Cuthberts Church. Obviously she had come under the Churchwarden's notice as she was poor and sought assistance. Just as obviously she returned herself to North Wootton at some time to await the birth of her child.
The family believes that Albert was brought up by a relative in North Wootton and never went with his Mother to her new Home & Husband. This is shown by him appearing in the 1941 Census as a Man-Servant at 'Westholme', the Manor on top of the hill between North Wootton and Pilton. Had he gone with his Mother he would have worked around Islington and Greater London and not returned to much poorer circumstances at North Wootton.
There are landowners in Wells that are suggested to have begat the child on Ann when she worked as a domestic Servant. There is said to be Bastardy papers confirming this in the Somerset Heritage Centre, but we have never seen them.
Albert met Elizabeth Grace Lintern in the District and Married her in 1846. We believe that Elizabeth's Mother, Francis Lintern, was a Clarke and may have been related to the Clarke family that owned 'Westholme', at that time, so perhps she even worked there and met Albert there? We cannot say for certain but it is possible.
What is clear is that William Griffen is not the Father of Albert Rich Loxton.

I hope this helps with your research, and you are welcome to contact me if you want to know more about William and Ann Griffen and their families.

Hi Ian, Very sorry for such a mess. I have not put any on the tree that has Private, Pictures of Graves, Monuments, photos of people on that tree. Find out who is doing the mess as it has nothing to do with me. You can take off all the families as I do not know the families at all. Good luck hope you can sort it out. Avis.
