Hello, My name is Michael Wade and I'm doing extensive research on my family heritage. I see here you have, William Wade III, 5th Lord of Plumtreebanks as the father of Thomas Wade Lord of Plumtreebanks/Kilnsey.
A few other contributors have this as well, but many of my other searches has brought me to Henry de la Wade, Rector of Berston as being his father.
Could you clarify why you believe your line of descendants is correct vs. the "De La Wade" family line. Also whatever sources you have that prove this along with the continuation of that line would be immensely appreciated. It has gotten me at a bit of a crossroads.
Thank You very much.

Hello, Michael:

A distant cousin of mine (eighth cousin, Robert Wade) has written a book (The Wades of Honiley Hall) which touches on the early history of the Wades from and near Addingham, Yorkshire.

Armagil/Armigel Wade's father Thomas is long known to have been a small landowner at Kilnsey, near Addingham.

The aforesaid author found an old Will from 1529, that of William Wade, a minor country squire from Addingham, in which twenty shillings are left to 'Thomas Wayde', which I guess is a son (or perhaps a fraternal nephew) of the said William. The exact relationship is not specified in the Will.

The said William Wade of Addingham fought in the Battle of Flodden, and was a friend and/or in-law of local gentry called Vavasour. He was likely the son of Robert Wade (fl. 1460) and Katherine Vavasour, whose marriage is recorded in an old heraldic visitation of Yorkshire.

The same Robert Wade was himself likely the son and heir of an older Robert Wade, mentioned in the 1439 Will of his father John Waude/Wade (alias Smyth), of Addingham.

The line of Addingham Wades can then be traced back - albeit very faintly - to a Richard Wade of Farsley, Yorkshire, who died around 1316.

I think that the 'Henry de la Wade, rector of Bernston' is a phantom. In those days, churchmen were not allowed to marry or have children. The name 'Henry de la Wade' is confused with an individual who lived in another county in the 1200's.

I can give you the author's email address if you like. His e-book is cheap at only about five or six dollars.

Hope that's of help!

Byron Wade.
