If I am reading this correctly, according to :

https://mansellupham.wordpress.com/page/3/

"[44] Jacobus Hendricksz: van de Cust / Kust [Coromandel] (1679-? 1792) baptises his slave Rosalijn / Roselijn i (15 August 1734) as an adult.

His slave Rosetta / Roselina / Roselijn (Roosje) van Bengalen is concubine and later wife (24 November 1737) to Johannes Jansz: van Ceylon.

Johannes Jansz is baptized as adult "Johannes van Ceijlon" (4 November 1725). Johannes Jansz: van Ceylon is the former slave of free-black Anna Rebecca van Bengale and wife to free-black and former Company slave Arnoldus van Christijn Pieters: alias Arnoldus Coevoet / Koevoet (1697-1735).

Rosetta / Roselina / Roselijn (Roosje) van Bengalen's husband Johannes Jansz: van Ceylon later marries (15 October 1758) Rosetta / Rosette van Bengale

Rosetta / Rosette van Bengale was formery married (21 October 1742) to own freed slave Aron van Bali – manumitted (12 October 1734), slave herself of Rosetta / Rosette van Boegis [Bugis] / Java / Macassar / Batavia / Jafnapatnam / Ceijlon, manumitted (c. 1723) and concubine to banished rapist Prince of Ternate Kyai Chili Mahmud / محمود – `the praised one` Prince of Ternate / Prince of Calomato [Kalamata] aka Jonker van Macassar."

Whether this is correct or not, it may provide some good starting points for further research and ensuring that Rosetta's and Roselijns don't become entangled.

Regards,

Michele

With all respect to Mansell Upham's research, I am questioning the 15 Oct 1758 marriage:

Looking through Johannes' time line, the 1758 marriage event seems to be for a different Johannes:

Den 15 October
Johannes Jonsz, van Batavia,
Vrijzwart alhier, '''Jongman''', met
Rosetta van Bengalen, Weduwe
van Arend Balij

I note that the Johannes Jonsz that marries Rosetta van Bengalen- widow of Arend Balij is recorded as a bachelor and from Batavia.

Can you call me back here over the weekend?

Will do.Thanks Sharon
