Evidence needed to support as son of Reverend John Jones He’s not named in his Will.

Jeffery may have been the son of Rev. John Jones of Concord MA and Fairfield CT as suggested in Hatfield’s “History of New Jersey, pub 1868” page 80, " Jeffry Jones was from Southold, L.I., where he was made a freeman, May, 1664. He and Edward Jones, who was at Southampton, as early as 1644, it is thought were sons of the Rev. John Jones, who came with the Rev. Mr. Shephard, of Cambridge, and the Rev. John Wilson, of Boston, Mass., from England, arriving Oct 2, 1635; was a collegue of Rev. Peter Buckley, of Concord, Mass., from 1636 to 1644, when he came to Fairfield, Ct., and resided there until his death, 1664, being over 70 years of age”

This does not exactly jive with other accounts of Rev. John Jones’ family and number of children. Betsey Howes has an interesting proposal that could be true; but, as I understand it, is undocumented.

3. Jeffery’s migration – Removed from Southold to Elizabethtown NJ ca 1664 where he was one of the original “Elizabethtown Associates.”See Hatfield.

4. Jeffery’s occupation – Ship carpenter per Southold Records Yeoman and whaler per Hatfield

First marriage –

Per Southold Town Records by J. Wickham Case, pub 1882:
Page 95 footnote, “He [Jeffery Jones] married on the 24th May, 1661, Elizabeth, daughter of Charles Glover. She died in September, same year.”
Page 465, Marriages -“ Geoffrey Jones married 24th of May 1661 with Elizabeth Glover”

• Baptisms – “Geoffrey Jones, a daughter bourne the 21st Sept”
• Deaths – “1661- the child of Geoffrey Jones (above named) born 21 Sept. died 28th 1661”

Thus, Elizabeth Glover died in September 1661 almost certainly from complications of childbirth.
Second marriage –

To Sephronia/Safronie/Sophronia Walter(s) or Waters, after 1661. I have not found a place or date of this marriage; could have been in Southold 1661-64 or in Elizabethtown after 1664.I show all of his surviving children coming from this marriage. I show the following children:

DEATH: Will of Jeffery Jones, dated 21 Dec 1717, Probated 31 Dec. 1717. He was a yeoman of Elizabethtown, Essex, New Jersey, His wife was still alive, His son Edward inherited a great deal. He had grandsons, Edward, Jeffry and Samuel. His daughters were, Susanna, Mary, and Abigail. His executors were sons-in-law's, Samuel Fitz Randolph and Jeremiah Bird, Witnesses were Joseph Marsh, John Morris and Shubal Smith. (Film 522735, "Record of Wills in New Jersey" 1705-1804, p. 89, Vol. C)
