The answer to your question might be in the following WIkipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_genealogy_software

Hi Theo. I don't have Mac but use Windows.

I downloaded Gedcoms from Geni several times and imported it into Legacy that I have.

It is a genealogical program with all the features of Geni and I co-operates with Family Tree as well as My Heritage and Geni.

My son downloaded it for me from the Internet, just look for Legacy Software in 2008. Then he upgraded it as earns dollars only once and 3 - 4 times per year it upgrades by asking you when you open your Legacy program to check the internet for upgrades.

When my laptop was stolen I just used my first Customer number and it opened on my new PC.
With Mike Stangel's help I got all my family lines Gedcoms and just imported it and all I had to do is look for the sources online again and put them on Legacy.

Then you always have a backup as only you can work on that.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I am a regular user of several desktop Genealogy programs. I couldn't find however any Windows program that uses the newest standard which is GEDCOM 7.0, they use 5.5. And I explained above what the advantage of 7 is over the older versions of GEDCOM.

I searched, haven't found any Windows pkgs yet. Perhaps because it is so recent.

I have been exporting Gedcoms to Family Tree Builder on Windows for over 10 years. Photos have always been included in the transfer. The sole difference with Gedcom 7.0 is that the photos are packaged within the file, rather than simply their addresses which are resolved as a second step.

The Geni export has been buggy in the past, but with the new "Family Tree Builder 8.0" output type available it appears that the problems have been resolved.

Still, it's disappointing that timeline events are not included in the export file.

In answer to your question, I'd suggest that Family Tree Builder is what you want - after all, Geni and FTB are both MyHeritage products so you'd expect them to work together - they finally accomplished this!

Family Tree Builder is free.

Thanks Elaine for the insight!
I didn't realize that photos were included as links on default Geni exports.

I tried to load a Mac exported GEDCOM 7.0 in FTB and it seemed to load persons but when I tried to attach the photo folder it crashed, twice.
I was able to load that file (profiles and photos) in RootsMagic 8. Unfortunately the photos don't show up by default as profile photos, they are just attached to the profiles.

Oh and I messed up my first post..
The Geni export DOESN'T include a GEDCOM 7.0 version :) It was only included in the MAC export I received from someone on the same day and I got the files mixed up!

I'll try to erase that post which claims the opposite to avoid throwing people off in the future...
