One of my ancestors was probably from Livonia. I am trying to find some information about his background. Are there any population registers from Livonia on 18th century? Or any lists of people possibly moving/visiting from the region to Finland?

This is his profile and all (very very little) I know about him.

Hi,

For northern Livonia (i.e. what is now the south of Estonia, i.e. the historical Pärnumaa, Võrumaa, Tartumaa and Viljandimaa counties - see https://www.ra.ee/dgs/explorer.php?tid=5&iid=200250745461&t...) before 1782 you can try the Wacka-books that list the people living on estates from the Estonian archives. These will list the peasants living on the estates but not usually the owners and their families or estate managers and artisans living and working on the estate lands.

From 1782 on there are the soul revision lists, where the northern Livonian ones again are in the Estonian archives - https://www.ra.ee/dgs/explorer.php?tid=34&iid=200100001248&... . For southern Livonia, the revision lists are in the Latvian Archives - https://raduraksti.arhivi.lv/collections/1:5:23 .

Regards,

Eike Anderson

Thanks a lot! I will have a look.
